BOXING ace Mohammed Ali, of the Cleckheaton Police Boxing Academy, has been called up to fight for England against Ireland this weekend.
Ali, who is a national English age group champion, had his first representative fight earlier this year in Wales and the coaches have kept an eye on his progress and training with Cleckheaton head coach Keith Tate. He will be boxing in Dungarvan, County Waterford.

Last weekend talented teenager Ali, who lives in Keighley but travels to the club in Cleckheaton for training most weekdays, was invited to an England training camp at the Rotunda Gym in Liverpool.

He will be fighting against the best 14-year-olds in Ireland and if he wins it could pave the way for other opportunities in the future.

Coach, Keith Tate, is also forging international links. On holiday in Malta he visited a new boxing club as a result tentative plans are in the pipeline to send a Cleckheaton team to the island.

It would be only open to novice fighters who have had between one and five bouts.

The boxing set-up in Malta is only at the fledgling stage.
