It was a big turnaround for us last week and what a difference five days makes!!
We were very pumped up for the game against Castleford and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves out there, as you could tell by the try scoring celebrations and the team spirit we have.
There were some real high quality tries scored and it was nice to get those finishing touches. We haven't been getting things right and, while it was nice to score some points, we know there are a lot of things to improve on and we'll be looking to put those things right this week at Salford.
So while it's good to take the positives out of that game we know we have a really tough test at the Willows on Friday.
I have been playing there for years and the stadium is such a hostile place to go – their supporters make it like that — and we don't have the best record against them at their place over the past few years.
It's always been tough and I am sure it will be on Friday. I thought they were very good last week against Leeds and we can't afford to take them lightly.
Indeed we keep saying how the competition is levelling up and you have got to keep turning up week after week, ready to play or else you will get burned.
I thought it was important for us to put a good show on and reward the supporters last week. It was tough conditions, very cold and a hard pitch and it was strange walking out and not seeing the fans behind the dug out – which, I am informed, was done for safety reasons – but we do appreciate all those that turned up, especially after the previous week and stood freezing their backsides off to support us.
I am sure they enjoyed the game and left with a smile on their face. They stayed behind too until we had all gone across the pitch to have out pictures taken with Kippax Juniors.
That's Lynchy's club and we went over to them and all our fans waited for us and applauded. It was great to be part of it.
Once again there were some 'odd' results this weekend, with Hull KR being kept scoreless and Hull FC losing to the Crusaders but that's how it is now.
I watched the Wigan and Warrington game and that was high class. I thought Sol was going to snatch it at the end and the way Wigan came back was tremendous.
It could have gone either way and it was a great advert for our sport. I have seen some great games already, despite the conditions. It's been hard to get a dry field but what we have seen has been tremendous and it will get even better when the fields start hardening up.
It's been very frustrating training this week with the weather. Tong School is a strange place, weather wise; a bit like the Grattan Stadium. It's got a climate of its own!!
I set off from Cas this morning and the weather was fine and almost all the way there but as soon as we came off the motorway, there it was; snow. It's always the same.
As soon as I leave Cas it's ok and then when I get near Tong or Odsal, it's snowing!!
But the week's been good and we have trained well in the conditions and I am sure the field will be fine at Salford.
It's the World Club Challenge this week and I suppose, with all the rivalry between Cas and Leeds and Bradford and Leeds, I should be supporting Melbourne!! But I am going to go for Leeds, just because I want them to do well and fly the flag for the game in this country. I am sure it will be an entertaining game. Storm have come over with a good squad and Leeds haven't been at their best but they have played in so many finals lately you have got to fancy them. They have the experience and I am sure they will perform on Sunday.
I'll see you all at Salford on Friday.
