JOHN Wood has signed an extension to keep him at Cleckheaton for another two years, as he aims to guide the side to major honours.
Captain Wood is currently in his fourth season at Moorend but had no hesitation in committing himself to another two years when the committee offered him a deal last Saturday.
Wood said: "I love the club to bits and have really enjoyed my time here. We have a great atmosphere and some great lads, while the committee work extremely hard so we have the funds to bring in quality players."
The former Lancashire and Durham county player firmly believes his side are capable of gaining major success over the next two years, and has pinpointed the Bradford League Division One title as his main objective.
Wood added: "Some might say that winning the league or cup this year may be pie-in-the-sky but we are currently fourth and I have the belief in this side.
"We are a strong batting side, which is an area that has let us down in the past, and we have a varied bowling attack with leg and off spinners as well as four quick bowlers.
"Having six or seven bowlers makes it easier in the cup competitions, while it gives us more options in the league.
"Four clubs are challenging for the league title and if we are not successful this season I'm sure we will be one of the more favoured sides next year.
"Woodlands and Pudsey Congs have dominated over the last 10 years and we have to step up to the plate and match them," he added.
One of the major factors in Wood agreeing to captain the side for another two years was the team spirit in the dressing room.
He added: "We have a young, talented side and lads get approached by other clubs but want to play at Cleckheaton as they enjoy playing with their mates.
"The good thing about our side is that everyone is happy for each other's successes that means they are all desperate for their mates to do well.
"Our aim is to push Woodlands and the teams at the top to the last game of the season and a lot will depend on how we play against Woodlands and Congs if we are going to win the league."
Wood admitted he originally thought this would be his last season at Moorend but looking to the future he said: "I can see me stepping down after the next two years as I want to spend more time with my family.
"Hopefully during this time we will have won the Bradford League title and that will help provide an easy transition for whoever takes over."
