Tomorrow, Sean Regan’s men attempt to become only the third team to leave leaders Bridlington with winning points, while on Wednesday they head east again, to Hull, to face Hall Road Rangers.

Liversedge are also aiming to break a sequence of four successive defeats, stretching back to mid December.

They will also have to put behind them the disappointments of the past week when they lost the derby match at home to Thackley, 2-0, last Saturday and then they were beaten 6-3 in the quarter-final of the West Riding County Cup at Wakefield FC, last Tuesday night.

The Clayborners have slipped down to 11th in the league table and will have to play two matches a week for the next month to catch -up.

They also don’t play at home again until February 27. So if they are to make progress up the league they will have to do it with good performances on the road.

Liversedge were understandably a bit rusty against Thackley having not played a competitive match in the previous in seven weeks.

On Tuesday on an icy pitch at UniBond League side Wakefield FC Liversedge were left floundering in the first half and suffered the consequences by going in 5-1 down at half-time.

However, there was a much improved performance by the whole team after the break, especially from Brook Newton and Jamie Wasley who spearheaded an admirable Liversedge fightback. Earlier, goalkeeper Stuart Wilkinson had made some terrific saves to deny the home side, turning the tie into a rout in the first half.

Bridlington have been strong throughout the season and this week they have been boosted by the arrival of 16-goal Craig Hogg from Scarborough.
