HIGHTOWN Liberal Club maintained their push for promotion from Heavy Woollen Gate Division Two with victory over relegation threatened Punch Bowl.
With promotion rivals Batley, Millbridge and Ravenswharfe not having games it was Hightown's chance to play one of their games in hand and they knew victory would move them up to second place.
Hightown produced a fine display of football over a battling Punch Bowl and both teams showed real fighting spirit.
Hightown took a 16th minute lead when Paul Fryer sent a through ball to Matty Knight, who finished with precision from 18 yards out.
Punch Bowl re-grouped and played some decent football.
Luke Secker produced a determined effort in midfield.
After 40 minutes,Hightown's Phil Jones was pulled back in the area and the referee was perfectly positioned to award the penalty.
Central defender Aidy Stowell stepped up and placed it firmly into the bottom left corner, sending goalkeeper Nick Ward the wrong way.
Hightown's third goal came just before half-time when Jonny Asquith went on a solo run through midfield and blasted the ball home from 20-yards out for what has got to be a contender for goal of the season.
After half-time, Hightown were playing down the hill and used the slope to their advantage with some very good football. Jon Macdonald sent a lovely through ball to Dean Comins which he picked up and slotted home from 10 yards out.
Hightown applied plenty of pressure against Punch Bowl and after 75 minutes Scott Wilson played a good one-two with James Crinnes to release Dean Comins who scored with a clinical right foot shot.
MoM went to Carl Hayes for his efforts at the back.
