I think there must be too many black cats around my neighbourhood at the moment as I picked up anther injury in the game against St Helens.
I really don't know what to say about it; I'm gutted. I seem to be getting all the bad luck at once. I was feeling good out there and my fitness level was good, so to pick up another injury was just devastating for me. I just did it tackling the big second row forward, Tony Puletua. I just tackled him and twisted him to the ground and I felt the rib pump up and a few minutes later when I took the ball up a couple of their blokes got on top of me and I felt it again and I knew it was bad.
There was no way I could have got back out there. It's ironic that you can do 100 metres and make 100 tackles in a match and not get hurt and I get my ribs done in a tackle!!
It was a shame I had to go off because I thought we played very well and stuck to the game plan in the opening 25 minutes. We looked the much better side and scored some good tries and then they got a couple of tries and that lucky one just on half time and it was a different game after that.
Everything changed and in the second half their confidence was very high. Everything they did set us back and they just went on with it. They had a lot of quality on their bench and it was noticeable how they stepped up when Fa'asavalu, Puletua and Roby came on. They lifted a gear and it's a great to be able to bring players of that quality off the bench. It changed the game really.
As well as my injury, Julien Rinaldi also got injured. We'll both miss this week's game and I feel especially sorry for Julien because he is out of contract at the end of this month. He doesn't know what the future holds for him but I know he'd like to stay and he's fitted in really well and been playing some good football.
Injuries are part of the game but when contracts are on the line and livelihoods are at stake it really does cause problems. I really feel for him.
We make the short journey to Headingley on Friday and even without a few injured players I feel we can get a result. We played well against them last time out and forced them to make errors.
I thought we were really clinical against them and we've upped our game in the last couple of weeks. If we play like we did in the first twenty five minutes of the Saints game and like we did at Warrington, then I am sure we can get the result. We are confident we have a game plan to beat them and that's what we'll be aiming for.
Wednesday saw Queensland wrap up the State of Origin Series. It's hard being a New South Welshman but it was a great game of footy and Queensland were just too good. They have a great blend of youth and experience; Civoniceva and Pryce have been there for years and Cameron Smith has been there for the last 10 Origins, so when you put that with their superb backline – so skilful and fast – and their high quality half backs, Lockyer and Thurston, then it was only to be expected really. They were just too strong for us really.
I hope to see as many as possible at Headingley on Friday and I'll be right behind the boys in the game.
