Whitcliffe Mount pupil Sally Smith, 15, ran for Kirklees Schools in the West Yorkshire Schools Track & Field Championships held at Thornes Park, Wakefield
Competing as an Intermediate (Years 10 and 11), Sally, who runs with Wakefield Harriers, won the 1500m with a terrfifc sprint from 300m out which took her seven seconds clear of the next Intermediate athlete.
Sally is now hoping to be selected to represent West Yorkshire Schools at the English Schools Championships at Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield on July 10 and 11.
Last month at Whitcliffe Mount School's sports presentation evening, the school rewarded Sally's long list of achievements by choosing her as Year 10 Athlete of the Year.
She was also one of four students nominated for the top Outstanding Achievement in Sport award.
