Spenborough athletes take tentative first league steps

SPENBOROUGH'S senior athletes competed in the first of four matches in the Northern League Division Two at Wigan on Saturday.
The team, who were promoted last season, finished fifth of the six teams on their first outing and will be aiming to avoid relegation this time.
On the men's side the sprinters performed well.
Josh Cayenne won the 100 and 200 metres, backed up by Craig Yates and Steve McNamara in the B races.
Jake Rowlands won the B 400 metres.
Jake, Steve and Josh combined with Paul Sutcliffe to win the 4 x 400 relay.
Jonathan Hepworth and Richard Martin had a double win in the hammer throw. Jonathan won the competition with a throw of 45.15 metres but unfortunately on his final throw he slipped and hurt his back and was taken to the local hospital.
In the women's hammer Jenny Ibbitson was second in the A match, while Catriona Gentleman won the B. Jenny won the discus.
The next match is at The Princess Mary Stadium on June 7.
