SPENBOROUGH AC Under-17s Boys team finished third in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships, held at Thornes Park, Wakefield, last Saturday.
Joshua Woodcock was first Spen runner home, finishing 11th in 19 mins 55 secs, followed by Carl Foulstone, 17th in 20.23, and Simon Bolland, 27th in 21.20.
Spenborough were fourth in the Under-15 Boys event.
Liam Stedman ran an excellent race to finish fifth overall in 14.36, Paul Davis was 11th in 15.06, while Matthew Jones was the third Spen runner to qualify finishing 53rd in 18.30.
Glen Aspindle was Spen's only runner in the Under-13 Boys race but he finished in a creditable 41st place in a time of 10.40.
Former Mirfield Free Grammar School pupil Jack Hallas won the Junior Men's (Under-20s) race at the championships.
Jack, who runs for Wakefield Harriers, finished in 25.34, almost 30 seconds ahead of second-placed Mohamed Yasin of Sheffield RC.
Mark Buckingham of Holmfirth added the Yorkshire Cross Country title to the Dewsbury 10K he won earlier this month when he claimed victory at Thornes Park.
Buckingham, 24, and former Batley runner Andrew Pearson (Longwood), opened up a gap over the 200-strong field and there was rarely more than a few metres between them.
Buckingham finally got away in the final 200 metres to win the title from Pearson and Rotherham's Phil Hoole in third.
A trio of Hallamshire Harriers – Andy Thake, Andy Heyes and Rob Little – finished within a second of each other to give them the team prize ahead of last year's champions Leeds City.
Of the Spenborough AC athletes to finish the race, Jeff Hornby was 106th in 42.00, Gerrard Skipping 107th in 42.09, Frank Reddington 153rd in 46.11 and Edward Wilkinson 199th of the 202 finishers in 54.49.
