WOODLANDS and East Bierley recorded their third straight victories in Bradford League Division One last Saturday.
Woodlands ended Baildon's winning start to the campaign, with a six-run success, although they were given a late scare by Matthew Duce.
Scott Richardson hit 44 at the top of the Woodlands innings, Adam Goldthorpe chipped in with 37, while a late flurry from Safraz Ahmed (44) helped Woodlands to 199 all out. Mushtaq Ahmed (5-35) and Andy Walker (4-38) shone for Baildon.
Tabbi Bhatti (56), Simon Davies (34) and Ahsan Butt (45) chipped in with useful runs in reply before Duce produced a thrilling finale.
He smashed the first two balls from Richard Spittlehouse's final over for six and a powerful straight drive from the third looked to be heading for the boundary until it hit umpire Dennis Halliday in the face.
The official was helped from the field and Woodlands' injured spinner Chris Brice stood at square leg for the final three balls.
Duce holed out in the deep next ball, Simon Webb was caught from the following delivery and although Ahmed smashed the final ball for four, Woodlands secured victory.
Spittlehouse ended with 3-73, while Pieter Swanepoel chipped in with 2-44 from 15 overs.
The win leaves champions Woodlands third, four points behind early pace setters East Bierley, who registered a third win, beating Yeadon by 103 runs.
Greg Wood made his first century for Bierley, hitting seven fours and three sixes on his way to 107, while captain Gavin Hamilton (66) also shone in a 147-run fourth wicket stand, which helped them to 223-6.
Luke Jarvis claimed 5-9 from 10.3 overs in reply and with Kez Ahmed (3-30) supporting, Yeadon were dismissed or 120.
Bradford and Bingley are the other side to have won their opening three matches and they trail Bierley to two points after a resounding eight wicket win at Cleckheaton.
Opening batsman Michael Nicholson (12) was the only Cleckheaton batsman to reach double figures as the home side were bowled out for just 54.
Amila Ranga (3-22), Phil Slater (3-4), Will Briggs (2-15) and Chris Thompson (2-9) did the damage and Bingley required just 11 overs to reach their target.
Gomersal are the early Division Two leaders after winning their opening three matches.
Their latest success saw them beat Morley by 43 runs in a game which saw almost 600 scored.
Bradley Parker and Richard Gould produced a 150-run opening wicket stand to set the platform for Gomersal's 317-4.
Parker hit 13 fours and a six in his 70 and when he fell, Gould continued to punish the Morley attack, making 174 not out from 125 balls, as he smashed 21 fours and five sixes.
Danny Lloyd led the Morley reply with 74, while Adam Larkin (53), Michael Davies (50no) and Matthew Taylor (33) also made useful runs as Morley closed on 274-6.
Hartshead Moor suffered a five wicket defeat to local rivals Lightcliffe and are still searching for their first win.
Matthew Evans (44) top scored as Hartshead were restricted to 134-9 with Aleem Ladak leading the way with 3-41.
Moor claimed five wickets in reply but opener Richard Nichols held firm with a patient 52 not out from 136 balls to steer his side to victory.
Spen Victoria suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Bankfoot.
Overseas man Naeemuddin Qazi (32) and Matthew Speck (27) were the leading Spen scorers but they were restricted to 149-9 as Andy Stothart (3-42) and Andy Deegan (3-36) impressed.
Bankfoot's South African batsman Garetn Van-Hoesslin hit seven fours and two sixes in his 76 not out as he shared an unbroken 126 run stand for the second wicket with Simon Curry (53no) to steer their side to victory.
