Dig deep for Laila

PUB-goers will be digging deep into their pockets tomorrow at a special charity fundraising event at the Sir Robert Peel pub in Heckmondwike.
An auction/raffle and disco will be held at the pub in High Street from 7.30pm to raise money to provide treatment to help four-year-old Laila Brown.

Laila has cerebral palsy and epilepsy but has benefited greatly from the Scotson Technique therapy which is provided at a hospital in London.

It relaxes her muscles and improves her mobility, and in the 12 months she has been undergoing it, she has learned to giggle for the first time.

She and her parents, Paul and Hayley, have to travel to London every three months for the five-day-long sessions at a cost of £600 each time, plus accommodation costs.

Simon Dean, owner of the pub, is a family friend and is encouraging people to come along to the event to help raise money for the treatment.

Lots of goods have been donated by Heckmondwike businesses – including a microwave, tv/dvd and meals – and Huddersfield Town have given signed adult and junior shirts and a signed football.
