A GOLDEN couple will recreate their wedding day when they celebrate 50 years of marriage this weekend.
Peter and Jean Ackroyd will have a service tomorrow at the Christadelphian Hall in Lockwood where they wed in 1958.
And Peter, 82, has no excuse to forget the important date as the pair were married on Jean's 21st birthday.
Peter, from Kilpin Hill, and Jean, from Huddersfield, met at a Christadelphian gathering in April 1957. They got engaged in the August and married the following May. Following a honeymoon in Blackpool the couple lived in Heckmondwike.
Jean said: "We had two cakes, and two lots of cards and I made the cakes myself, as I have this time for the party.
"We're having a service in the same church and then a party afterwards in the same room as our reception.
"My cousin will be the organist, as he was on our wedding day, and my chief bridesmaid will be there from 50 years ago."
The couple will also exchange new rings.
Now retired, Peter used to be a motor mechanic and Jean a cashier.
Peter also worked for his son, Andrew, for 18 years at his sheet metal fabrication business in Ravensthorpe.
Before she gave up work, Jean worked for Dransfield Novelty amusement arcades as a manager for 25 years.
The couple have two children, Andrew, 46, and Martin, 48, as well as three grandsons and one granddaughter.
All of her family will play a role in tomorrow's celebrations.
Jean said: "Naomi, my granddaughter will be flower girl and my grandson, Wesley, will be a groomsman. The other two, Gavin and Josh, will be serving drinks. It'll be a right family do."
Jean and four of her friends will be taken to the ceremony in a pink limo and, in traditional style, she will not see her husband before the ceremony.
Jean and Peter are heavily involved with fundraising efforts for Kirkwood Hospice and Positive Friends, a support group for sufferers of bowl cancer, based at Dewsbury and District Hospital.
While Peter enjoys walking Jean is a keen poet and has sent several pieces of her work to the Queen.
She sent her first work in 2002 offering her condolences after the Queen Mother's death.
She has also sent pieces congratulating the Queen on her wedding anniversaries and birthdays.
Each time she receives a response from a lady in waiting.
Jean said: "I know the Queen reads them because there are always personal comments on about what she thinks about them.
"I sent her one about the tsunami and she was really pleased with that
Jean also sends the Queen updates on her charity work.
A true royalist, she said her ultimate dream was to attend a royal garden party.
Jean said the secret to a happy marriage was give and take and loving each other.
