PUPILS and staff at Moorend First School are basking in the glow of an "outstanding" Ofsted report.
The report, just published, said the Cleckheaton school was outstanding in all the inspection judgements – including the fact that it is a church school.

The inspector, Gill Hepworth, said parents consistently told her it was a "wonderful school".

Her report said: "It is a happy school and prides itself on its friendliness and warmth.

"Its success stems from a strong caring ethos and outstanding leadership and management.

"The quality of teaching is outstanding. Learning experiences are rich, diverse and exciting. As a result, pupils are highly motivated and happy in their learning and achieve exceptionally well.... by the end of year two standards are significantly above average."

She was full of praise for the pupils whom she said were "friendly and polite", adding: "They feel safe and are confident that adults will help them if there is a problem. They make an excellent contribution to the community and beyond in their response to raising money for charities.

"They relish opportunities to take responsibility. For example the older pupils are 'buddies' to younger ones. Pupils are adamant that there is no bullying."

She also found that as well as having outstanding teachers, the teaching assistants had a "very good and sometimes outstanding" level of expertise.

The curriculum was innovative and enhanced by an exceptional range of clubs, visits and visitors to the school.

She added: "The headteacher provides a very strong focused leadership and she is supported extremely well by a highly motivated and committed team of staff and governors."

Headteacher Michelle Bouabida said: "The school is very proud. The Ofsted inspection report is a wonderful reflection of the successful contributions and efforts of the whole school community.

"The staff and pupils at Moorend School work very hard and we are delighted that this commitment and enthusiasm has been acknowledged with outstanding judgements in all areas."

Governors' chairman Philip Hardill added: "The governing body is delighted with this report and I congratulate and thank Mrs Bouabida for her leadership and management and all our teaching and support staff for their outstanding contributions towards this achievement.

"The overwhelming support and interest in the school from parents and guardians is very much appreciated."
