YOUNG people from Spen Valley Scouts basked in summer sunshine at the weekend during a training camp at the Fan Wood site in Gomersal.
Forty-five girls and boys attended the camp for patrol and assistant patrol leaders.
They enjoyed map work, small scale pioneering, axe and saw, lightweight camping skills, team development, first aid and camp fire songs and stunts.
They also had to plan menus, buy provisions and finally cook most of their own meals.
The aim was to develop essential independence and team skills to help them in their continuing Scout careers and in their everyday life.
District chairman Graeme Sunderland said: "Everyone had a great time and it was made so much more so in having the sunny weather throughout the weekend.
"Saturday night saw the traditional campfire at which all the Scout patrols took it in turn to entertain their fellows with songs and campfire stunts they had learned."
- Scouts and their families learned about Spen's rich heritage at a sponsored walk on Sunday
.
Parents, grandparents and family friends joined their sons and daughters on a sponsored Scout walk and they took the opportunity to see another side of their home area.
Three walks were organised to suit those of little fitness to those able to cover many miles.
In all over 160 people took part, passing historic buildings, churchyards, woods filled with bluebells and wonderful green meadows.
The longest walk was around nine miles long taking around three and a half hours - while the shortest trek was just under two hours.
