More memories of Firthcliffe Parade

MY sister and I were pleased to see the photographs of Firthcliffe Estate in the recent Guardian Looking Back feature.

We found them very interesting as we have lived on the estate all our lives.

Our parents were married in November 1933 and moved into the house on Firthcliffe Parade when it was newly built.

My sister was born in January 1935 and I was born in January 1939.

There was an air raid shelter on spare land at the back of the house and one at the top of the Mount also.

My father was an air raid warden for the estate, as well as a lot of others who are pictured, who also lived on the estate.

The photo was taken on the rec on Firthcliffe Road and the other shows us in the garden.
