ICONIC: Heckmondwike's Holy Spirit Church

ICONIC: Heckmondwike's Holy Spirit Church

In 2014, the Holy Spirit Church in Heckmondwike celebrates its centenary.

The church building is the outstanding landmark in the area, well known by everyone.

Unfortunately, the years have taken their toll of the fabric of the building (along with the thieves who have taken the lead off the roof on several occations).

To bring the building back to its former glory in time for the centenary celebrations, the parishioners must raise £100,000 towards the cost. This seems an impossible amount when only about 200 people are now attending Sunday Mass.

Could you help? Maybe you are a lapsed Catholic who, for whatever reason, can’t face coming back to the church.

I can assure you, no-one would bat an eyelid, no one would judge you, only you know your reasons.

If at the end of the day you don’t want to come back, maybe you could consider making a donation to the restoration fund. Many non-Catholics have been to christenings, weddings or funerals of their Catholic friends being held in Holy Spirit Church.

Could you help? Any amount, big or small would be very much appreciated.

Just put a cheque, or if you want to remain anonymous, cash in an envelope through the presbytery letterbox.

Alternatively you can call appeal co-ordinator Peter Moreland on 01924 501774.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
