Preserve Red House for future generations

I WAS shocked to read in the Spenborough Guardian that the threat of closure is lying over the Red House Museum.

I know these are financially exacting times, but I would ask Kirklees to re-think the idea of selling it.

In my humble opinion, Red House is not just a museum of artefacts, it embodies the history and heritage of the very independent-minded people of this area, a history carved through thick and thin.

Red House sheds light on the Brontë family and Charlotte’s writings and of local people immortalised in her book Shirley.

Red House reflects the character of the landscape and people of this area and, because of these associations alone, I believe it should remain as a museum for future generations in this valley.
