Prospecting for family tree

On February 4, 2010, the Spenborough Guardian published an article relating to the conversion into flats of Prospect Mills in Cleckheaton.

The piece featured valuable information supplied by John Briggs, former production director of the firm of Critchley, Sharp and Tetlow, relating to the history of the firm and of the building itself.

It would appear from the article that Mr Briggs has done a huge amount of research into this particular subject.

My personal research over the last 30 years has been into my own family history. In the course of these researches I have discovered that my great great grandmother, Mary Sharp, was the wife of William Squire of Scholes and the sister of William Sharp of Sunny Bank.

I am now trying to unearth further information relating to the Sharp family, Sunny Bank and the firm of Critchley Sharp and Tetlow.

Mary Sharp’s daughter-in-law was Elizabeth Briggs (wife of cricketer Dick Squire) and I therefore have a further reason for contacting John Briggs to compare notes.

I plan to visit Cleckheaton/Scholes again in 2013 and would therefore be delighted to hear from anyone who can help in my researches. I live in Edinburgh and can be contacted at the address below or at romilly.squire@virgin.net .
