THIS free weekly service for our readers details what is happening in and around the Spen Valley in the coming weeks. July 4-6
* Cleckheaton Folk Festival, various venues throughout town. Opening concert on Friday in the town hall. Saturday, parade and street entertainment. Concerts, workshops, dance sides, singarounds and musicians' sessions. Visit www.cleckheato

Friday July 4
* Low Moor Local History Group meets 2.30pm at Aldersgate Methodist Church, Common Road/Cleckheaton Road, Low Moor. Speaker is Coun J Stanley King on local history.

July 5-6
* European Market, Albion Street, Cleckheaton, with Dutch cheeses, Delph pottery, Dutch cookies, German sausages and sweets, bags, French scarves, crystal, German bier and wine and much more. From 9am-8pm Saturday and 10am-6pm Sunday.

Saturday July 5
* Nearly New Sale with children's clothes and toys, tombola and cake stall at St Luke's church hall, Moorbottom, Cleckheaton - 10am-1.30pm. Free refreshments. Proceeds for St Luke's pre-school.
* Farmers' Market, St John's car park, Cleckheaton, from 9am-1pm.
* Black Dick's Temple with North Kirklees Ramblers - meet John at 10.30am at Mirfield Library car park, Station Road, for a nine miles moderate walk. Non members welcome. Also takes in Grange Moor and Whitley.
* BBA choir entertain at Christ Church, Liversedge, from 7.15pm. Free admission, refreshments available.
* Kirkwood Hospice fundraiser in a market stall in Blanket Hall Street at the side of Woolworths in Heckmondwike, 9am to 3pm along with Dewsbury Hospital Radio and Cawley Lane PTA.

Sunday July 6
* Garden Party at Eastthorpe Holistic Health Spa, Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, from 2pm-4:30pm. Entrance £1.
* Hade Edge Brass Band entertain at Red House Museum, Gomersal, from 1pm-4pm.

Tuesday July 8
* Entertainment and dancing, Jazz and swing music of the 1940s and 1950s with Eddie Martell and the Reg Hargreaves Quartet, 8.30pm, at the Batley Carr Social Club, Mill Road (off Bradford Road), Dewsbury. National Music Club of the Year 2006. Admission £2. Call 01924 461242 for more details.

Wednesday July 9
* Concert in aid of Kirkwood Hospice. Cleckheaton and District Support Group host the Friends Evening with help from the BBA Choir. Refreshments, 7pm, the New Independent Chapel, Cleckheaton.

Saturday July 12
* Family fun day at Harold Park, Low Moor, with donkey rides, football tournament, Bradford Motor Project, rowing boat, music, dancing, refreshments and much more from noon-4pm.
* Organ recital at St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Mirfield, with David Condry of York Minster. Free, but donations welcome. From 3.30pm.

Sunday July 13
* Safe Anchor Trust open day at Shepley Bridge Marina, Steanard Lane, Mirfield, 10.30am-4pm. Experience an unusual and special view of Mirfield from the River Calder on a free canal boat trip (donations gratefully accepted). Enjoy refreshments in the newly refurbished cafe. Includes additional attractions for family fun day.
• Ride the Rails at Royds Park, Cleckheaton. Miniature steam railway, behind real steam locomotives, from 1.30pm-4.30pm. Rides are 50p. Free parking. Refreshments available. Visit www.spenborough.me.uk for more details.
* 1940s open day at Ponderosa, off Smithies Lane, Heckmondwike, with re-enactments, military vehicles, displays, stalls, laser shooting, mini panzer tank driving and a flyover from an RAF Lancaster. Admission £3.50 adults and £4 children/OAPs. Family tickets (two adults, two kids) £13, and under 2s free. From 10am-5pm.
* 1940s dance evening at the Lakeside Restaurant, Ponderosa, off Smithies Lane, Heckmondwike, with buffet meal. For tickets call Lisa Bownes on 01924 235276. From 7pm-midnight.

Saturday July 19
* Murder Mystery Evening Pasta, Passion and Pistols - 7:15pm for 7:30pm in Trinity Schoolroom, Trinity Street, Mirfield. Tickets £7 including Italian dinner. Bookings - tel 01924 497612/522993.

Friday July 25
* Birstall Library and Information Centre, Market Street, Birstall, Revolting Rhymes walk to Oakwell Hall. Story time with a walk to the hall and activities in the garden. Children aged eight-plus. Free. Book on 01924 326227.

Sunday July 27
* Teen Sirara at Batley Baths, Cambridge Street, Batley. Girls-only activities from 11-16. £2.25.
*Spen Way heritage trail, 15 mile walk, meet Margaret at 9.30am at the junction of Primrose Lane and Bradford Road (A638), Rawfolds, Cleckheaton.

Monday July 28 to Friday August 29
Summer playscheme at Batley Baths and Recreation Centre, Cambridge Street, Batley. Swimming, games, arts, crafts and cooking. Eight to 13 years. £11.15 for full day and £5.55 for a half day. 01924 326167.
