I COULDN'T agree more with Alan Carcas (A load of rubbish, Your Say, June 13).
I rang Kirklees Council to clarify certain points, particularly with regard to shredded paper. It cannot now go into the grey bin because it "jams up the machines". It will also not be accepted at HWCs. So where does it have to go? In the grey bin and consequently, the landfill.

Add this to all the other items no longer accepted in the green bin, and our usual practice, for a family of three, with extra at weekends, of easily filling two green bins each month, will be drastically reduced.

This surely, is defeating the whole object of "recycling" and cutting down on landfill.

We have a large garden and always take garden waste and any other unwanted items to the HWRC ourselves, so reducing the burden on the council wherever possible.

In other words, we try to do our bit as I am sure most families do in Kirklees.

Why do I feel thwarted?

I would also add that I strongly object to the alternate week grey bin removal because the system seemed to work well as it was. Why change it?
