Would that be racist?

AS a recent convert to your newspaper, mainly because I think it tries to be impartial, I was disappointed by the comments of one Carl Morphett who represents an organisation called Kirklees Unity who oppose the BNP (Guardian and Herald, May 2).
Commenting on the second time Coun Exley was elected he said: 'the Lib Dems stood an Asian candidate and that understandably split the Asian vote".

So in other words when Asian people favour their own people that's "understandable" but when the BNP do the same that's racist presumably?
