Making seventeenth century face packs and hand creams was among the activities that these children from Battyeford First School took part in during their trip to Clarke Hall near Wakefield.

Eight and nine-year-old pupils from Class Six also spent the day quill-writing, carding and spinning wool, and drawing – both inside and outside the hall.

Some of the children helped make a picnic lunch of chicken and salad, and all sang or played the recorder, accompanied on the spinnet by Mrs Speight.
