A THIEF conned his way into an elderly woman's home to steal her purse.
The man knocked on the woman's door in Chapel Road, Low Moor, last Thursday, between 1pm and 1.30pm and asked for directions.

The woman gave him directions and he left, but then returned to the house a short time later and asked the victim to tur
n on the taps in the kitchen to check the water.

The door was left ajar and while the woman was distracted in the kitchen, the suspect went into the living room and took her purse before making off through the door.

The suspect is white with a fair complexion, in his late 20s between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 10ins and slim.

He had short fair hair with a round face and was clean-shaven.

He wore a long-sleeved white top with a collar and blue jeans.

Det Con Jayne Wood of Bradford South Reactive CID, said: "While these types of burglary are quite rare, there are heartless people out there who will target elderly and vulnerable people.

"We would advise you not to allow any cold callers or strangers into your home until you are satisfied that they are genuine.

"Check their ID, ring their company to confirm who they are and get support from relatives or neighbours if possible.

"Remember a genuine caller will not object to their ID being checked.
"Finally dial 999 if you see anything suspicious.

"I would also urge anyone with elderly neighbours or relatives to check on them and make sure they know not to let these people into their houses."

Police are also keen to trace the driver of a white transit van which was seen leaving Chapel Road shortly after the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 4824 Jayne Wood at Bradford South CID on 01274 376594.
