Cyclists now safe in the saddle

PUPILS of Whitechapel Middle School have received their cycling proficiency certificates.
Year five children doing one-day training, then three days on the road.

Year six did a further four days on the road as well as learning bike maintenance. Year seven and eight pupils had further training on the Spen Valley Greenway, with the certificates being presented on Tuesday.

Kirklees Cabinet member for transportation David Hall, said: "It is all about having fun and at the same time getting across the message about road safety.

"Hopefully once the youngsters get into the habit of riding to school they will continue to use their bikes. It increases fitness and is good all round."
