A FORMER councillor has launched a campaign against the closure of Heckmondwike's cash office.
David Exley, who lost his seat as a BNP councillor in the local election, is lobbying the council to find the funds to enable the office to remain open for the next 18 months.

He said: "Last week at the meeting of the full council a roll-over of £900,000 was announced in the budget, to be used for different causes.

"I just want £40,000 of that to keep the cash office open until a new Library and Information Centre is built.

"The cash office is used by a lot of older people in particular."

The office is due to close on Friday (July 11).

Cash payments to the council can be made at the post office until the Library and Information Centre opens in 2010.

Heckmondwike's existing library will handle information and advice services, access to other council services and cheque payments.
