THE medals of an heroic Cleckheaton soldier tragically killed in the First World War were sold for £228 at an auction in London last Thursday.
The British War and Victory medals were awarded to Private Matthew Lloyd, who enlisted at Cleckheaton.

Private Lloyd was serving with the Second Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, near Arras, France, when he was killed 90 years ago, on March 28, 1918, just eight months before the end of the First World War.

His medals were bought by a mystery bidder at Spink at Bloomsbury, London.
