PUPILS will bury a time capsule in the grounds of their new school building.
The children at Whitcliffe Road School are eagerly awaiting the day they will move into their new school grounds in Cleckheaton in January next year.

To mark the impending move a ceremony will be held on Wednesday where the capsule will be buried in the new Howard Park Community School grounds.

It includes items collected by the children showing what life was like at Whitcliffe Road and also in the country in 2008.

And a copy of this week's Spenborough Guardian will also be added to the time-preserving capsule at the site at St Peg Lane.

The Whitcliffe building is now 119 years old.

Headteacher Karen Vickers said: "All the staff and children are really looking forward to moving into the new school with the wonderful facilities.

"It's been a long wait but we all feel now that it was worth it and are excited about starting there in January."

Tom Harrison, site manager of building contactor Morgan Ashurst, said: "We are delighted to be a member of the team responsible for delivering this important new building, which will provide much needed facilities for the local community."

The company will add to the capsule a copy of its factsheet about the project.

The information details how the school was constructed, the type of materials used and who was involved with the project.

Mr Harrison said: "I am sure we will all feel a tremendous sense of pride and personal satisfaction when the school opens its doors to the children for the first time next year.

"We hope that the youngsters are all looking forward to using their new school."
