At the time of the Spenborough Guardian going to print, the blue metal hoarding installed to keep people out of the site off Northgate had fallen onto the pavement.

Owner of Rider's Electrical Tony Rider said: "Kirklees go on about health and safety and making sure the public are safe while they carry out these works, but this fencing has been down nearly two weeks.

"One of the panels blew down so I propped it back up again but then we had some heavy wind and now it's all on the floor.

"I get the feeling that if it had happened in Huddersfield it would have all been sorted the same day."

Panelling and hoarding around the site adjacent to Royle Fold, was installed when the George pub was demolished last year.

A spokeswoman for Kirklees said the highways department would put the fencing back up as soon as possible.
