TWO Spen post offices are on the national list of potential closures.
East Bierley post office in Southview Road and the branch at Six Lanes End, Heckmondwike, could be axed as part of national closures.
Staincliffe post office in Halifax Road, Staincliffe, on the Heckmondwike border, is also earmarked for closure.
Post Office Ltd has to suggest closures across the country to implement measures proposed by the Government.
The country has been divided into 47 areas and for each one Post Office Ltd has devised an area plan proposal.
Sixty three branches are suggested for closure in West Yorkshire.
A six week consultation period has now started.
The detailed Area Plan proposal is now available from Post Office Ltd at www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange, by emailing:
consultation@postoffice.co.uk or by writing to: Post Office Ltd, Freepost Consultation Team (no stamp required).
The purpose of this local public consultation is to obtain views on Post Office Ltd's proposals to ensure that the branches that are ultimately selected for closure, or closure and replaced with an outreach service, are appropriate.
There are four types of outreach; hosted, partner, mobile and home delivery, all of which are operated by a core sub-postmaster from a larger nearby branch.
Hosted outreach will be services hosted at a local premises and the sub-postmaster will visit at designated times for a limited period; partners will offer a reduced range of services from a local business, such as pub or shop; mobile services will visit areas on a fixed day and time of the week - similar to a mobile library - and home outreach will be for very small communities where products can be ordered over the phone.
Compensation will be paid to those sub-postmasters whose branches are compulsorily closed under the programme.
