FORMER Labour Party member Suzy Brain-England has been chosen to fight the Birstall and Birkenshaw ward for the Lib-Dems in May's local elections.
Suzy left Labour a year ago, and chairs the Kirklees Community Healthcare Services, which provides nursing and therapies in people's homes and health centres.

She was awarded an OBE for public service in the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours for her work as chairwoman of the Department of Work and Pensions' Standards Committee. She lives in Birkenshaw.

Lib-Dem leader Coun Kath Pinnock said: "Suzy brings a great wealth of experience and talent especially about the NHS and housing which will be a huge advantage to local people as their councillor."
