VISITORS flocked to Liversedge for the Yorkshire Bird Society annual show.

Both the number of entries and visitors were up on previous years.

The 2011 event, at the Liversedge Parish Centre, was dedicated to the memory of Don Bardgett who died in August. For many years he, and his wife Irene, virtually ran the club holding all the main positions.

Best in Show was awarded to a white-headed black bulbul staged by Ernie and Peter Gallimore, who also won Best Australian and best Adult Australian and Best Nectarfeeder.

Ian Pickard won Best Parrotlike with a galah, the best Current Year Owner Bred (CYOB) Foreign Bird and CYOB Parrotlike was a pied cockatiel staged by Susan and Darren Sefton. Best adult owner bred bird was a blue-masked lovebird, staged by Bill and Yvonne Ingham.

All awards in the Zebra Finch Section were taken by Martin Hugill. Luke Winner’s Normal Peach-faced Lovebird beat all-comers to the Best Lovebird award, but was narrowly beaten to the best junior’s award by Katie and Charlotte Corrigan’s cockatiel, Legless.
