PUPILS have raised more than £1,000 for two charities.

The Heckmondwike Grammar School pupils raised £670 each for Macmillan Cancer Support and the RSPCA at their Christmas fair.

Representatives from each charity have visited the school to receive their donations.

School council member Lewis Roberts presented a cheque to Maria Amos, the fundraising manager for the Wakefield and district area for Macmillan Cancer Support.

And school council members Priya Dhangar and Hira Zafar presented Caroline Lewis Jones, Joanne Wall and Shandy the dog from the RSPCA with a cheque.

Chantelle Cocking, from the school, said both charities praised the students for their efforts.
