A SPEN born author has collaborated with an American writer to publish an anthology of short stories.

Jenny Twist, who grew up in Heckmondwike but moved to Spain 10 years ago, has joined up with Tara Fox Hall from New York State, USA, to create Bedtime Shadows, a collection of fantasy, horror and sci-fi short stories.

The pair became friends after they both wrote stories for an anthology called Spellbound in October last year.

While living in Heckmondwike, Jenny, 63, had a number of different jobs including working as a bacon-packer and escapologist’s assistant, before she completed two history degrees.

She retired to Spain with her husband Vic 10 years ago and has written a series of short stories and novels.

She said she had written her first story when she was a child, about two mice called Bubble and Squeak.

She continued writing for a while, but then began to pursue other interests. However she always nurtured a idea to write professionally.

“Now I’m finally doing it,” she said.

Tara, who works as a health and safety inspector in America, has written a number of books, including a paranormal action adventure series and a romantic suspense story featuring vampires.

She said: “I love that my stories resonate with people.

“That they can lose themselves in my stories means I’ve done my job.”

Jenny said the pair’s anthology had received critical acclaim from other writers.

She said: “It’s a collection of stories of ghosts and vampires, future dystopias, travel through different dimensions, a holiday romance that changes everything, and a new twist on an ancient myth.”
