A GUNMAN stormed into a Birkenshaw pub and assaulted a woman before robbing her.

Police were called to The George IV pub, in Bradford Road, at around 1.30pm last Friday after reports that a man had robbed a 49-year-old woman at gunpoint.

The woman had been counting cash from the pub’s slot machines when the man stormed in and hit her across the side of her head with what is believed to have been a gun. The woman was working on behalf of a leisure company who owned the machines.

She was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital for treatment for minor facial injuries and shock. She was released later that day.

Police are hunting the man, who is white, slightly built and in his early 20s. He was wearing a dark coloured top, with dark trousers and a scarf obscuring much of his face.

DS Kelvin Lecomber of Dewsbury CID said: “This was a very frightening ordeal for the victim and an incident that we are taking extremely seriously.

“Our enquiries are very much ongoing and I would urge anyone with information that could help us with our enquiries to contact Dewsbury CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
