A bank branch is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

HSBC’s Heckmondwike branch is marking the milestone next month with an open day on Monday July 8.

At the event, visitors can enjoy a slice of anniversary cake while reading through a brochure on the history of the branch.

Bank manager Ian Clarke said: “We will also have available some old ledger books, branch manuals, staff guides, staff newspapers and old home safes which will hopefully hold some interest.”

Redfearns Solicitors shares the premises and it is believed former bank managers may have lived there, where old fixtures and fittings are still in place. Tours will be available for anyone interested to see them.

The bank, which is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, will also be raising money for the Forget Me Not children’s hospice.
