It’s good to talk – as pupils from Birkenshaw CE Primary School can prove. The school has just held its Good Speaking Competition, which was won by Declan Hitchcock.
The contest, now in its fifth year, invites children to learn, and then recite a piece of poetry.
After successfully winning class, then year group heats, the 10 finalists performed their piece in front of the whole school and panel of judges comprising school governors, church and community leaders.
The finalists pictured are: Jorja Ellis, Daniel Lilley, Georgia Hitchcock, Charlie Greaves, Aniyah Longstaff, Eva Green, Winnie Peacock, Declan Hitchcock, Laura Sweeney and Louis Craik.
