The food bank’s staff are working with Boots UK to trial a donation point in its high street store to offer an accessible location for the local community to make donations of toiletries and basic hygiene items.

To help kick-start the launch Boots UK also made a donation of over 300 items, including sanitary products, to the food bank cause.

One of the donations most frequently requested at the Fusion Food Bank is toiletries, including items such as deodorant, shower gel and sanitary products.

These items are often overlooked as an essential part of the services that its food banks provide. However, they are incredibly important and play a huge role in maintaining health and wellbeing of those who regularly access its services.

The trial donation point, which will be on display at the front of the Boots store, offers residents in Dewsbury a drop-off point in the heart of the local community.

It will also be regularly updated by Fusion with requests for the most needed items.

Jesmeet Notay, manager of the Boots store in Dewsbury, said: “We know that supporting the essential hygiene needs of people is as vital today as it has always been and it’s these items that are often most needed by food banks.

“We’re pleased to be able to support Fusion, and the work it does for those in need in Dewsbury, and really want to encourage the local community to get behind this important cause too.”

Director of Fusion, Helen Minett, said: “We very much appreciate Boots’ decision to trial this initiative – it really shows a commitment to local communities.”
