English super featherweight champion Gary Sykes failed to beat the bookies when he backed Dawn Approach to win the Epsom Derby.

The Dewsbury Moor boxer had been given an £80 charity bet by Ladbrokes when he officially opened its new shop in Mirfield last Saturday.

When the horse came in last, the shop still donated the £200 Gary could have won to his chosen charity.

Manager Chris Singleton said: “It was good day. We had a lot of new customers and a great atmosphere.”
