A TAKE-AWAY owner from Hightown has been fined £600 for having dirty floors and a mouldy fridge freezer in his shop.

Craig Ashcroft, who owns Ashcroft Fisheries in Greenside Road, Mirfield, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a documented Hazard Analysis identifying hazards in the food business, failing to ensure the premises were kept clean and failing to keep equipment which comes into contact with food clean.

Prosecuting on behalf of Kirklees Council, Sarah Swarbrick said an Environmental Health officer carried out a routine inspection of the premises on July 2 last year and immediately noticed that the food preparation area was dirty.

He discovered dirt and grease around the frying range, a dirty floor, dirty walls and electrical sockets and a dirty, mouldy fridge freezer.

Mr Ashcroft, of Tanner Street, who was not represented, said he had since put in place a more vigorous cleaning regime.

He said: “I have a reliable clientele including lots of friends and family. I can guarantee all the food that leaves my premises is safe to eat, and in seven years I’ve never had one complaint.”

He was fined £600 with £335 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
