A range of classical pieces and film scores will be performed at Pontefract Castle next month.
The West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra’s programme includes Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries, Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem and symphonies by Mozart and Beethoven.
And the concert, on Saturday, July 13, will be followed by a fireworks display.
Coun David Dagger, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture and sport, said: “The programme looks really entertaining and I am looking forward to attending the performance on what is sure to be a busy and exciting weekend.
“The castle is also hosting a free Picnic in the Castle event during the day on the Saturday. The event has been organised in partnership with Pontefract Heritage Group and offers a real family day out with brass band music, Viking re-enactment and all sorts of other things to do. ”
Pontefract Liquorice Festival will take place the following day.
Tickets for the Proms in the Castle event cost £5 for adults and £3 for children, and are available from Pontefract Castle, Pontefract Museum, Wakefield Visitor Centre and Sandal Castle.
