Volunteers are celebrating the achievements of a spec-tacular charity appeal.

Cleckheaton and District Rotary Club said it will have collected 100,000 spectacles for the Vision Aid Overseas project by the end of this year.

Used glasses have been sorted and handed out to disadvantaged people in third world countries, as part of the group’s project.

And young project volunteer Maddie Tetlow, of Liversedge, won the club’s Rotary Young Leadership Award.

The accolade is given to a 16 or 17-year-old who could benefit from leadership training with young people.

Maddie thanked the club for the award at a meeting last Wednesday.

She said the leadership course helped her make new friends and gain leadership skills.

The club also thanked people who have supported the project.
