A MAN from Littletown has changed his life after losing a whopping 108 pounds in just 18 months.
Clifford Frear, from Edward Street, was diagnosed with type two diabetes two years ago, and has since gone on to become his weight-loss group’s top slimmer after making the change to his life 10 months ago.
Clifford, 65, said: “The doctor told me that I diabetes – I weighed 22 stone and my diabetes was quite difficult to manage, but I thought ‘if you get rid of the cause, you will get rid of the problem’.
Clidfford then began attending the the Weight Watchers group run by Avril Emmett at the Central Methodist Church, Cleckheaton, and never looked back.
He said: “On day one, Avril told me ‘everything you need to change your life is right in front of you’ – which really stuck with me. You will never meet anyone who likes food as much as me, and it was through food that I managed to change.”
After beginning to lose the weight, Clifford noticed that his diabetes had become easier to manage, and also found the need to invest in some new clothes!
“I got my body mass index down from 46 to 29,” he said. “I also went from a 54-inch to a 36-inch waist and can now go into supermarkets and buy clothes off the peg.
“The other day I bought a pair of jeans for £5, when I used to have to pay about £35-£40 for a pair!
“I used to go on lots of diets, I would lose a stone but put on a stone and a half on afterwards – it was only when I changed my whole lifestyle that I really saw a lasting change.”
Clifford still plans to lose a further 18 pounds by May – he would then be in the right weight bracket to be able to apply for a tummy-tuck operation to remove loose skin which has lost its elasticity.
