Hundreds of home grown flowers and vegetables filled a church hall to be judged in a produce competition.

The Spen Valley Paxton and Chrysanthemum Society’s early autumn show took place at Liversedge Parish Centre.

More than 280 pieces of fruit, vegetables, flowers and home made produce were entered. One of the big winners was Roberttown School pupil Alfie Ainley, seven, who won first prize in the four children’s categories for a mini garden, decorated egg, edible necklace and vegetable monster.

Show secretary Trevor Long said: “It was a tremendous show. We had somebody coming from Rochdale which is quite a coup as most competitors come from the Spen Valley.”
