Police cars and vans were parked on the street as a team from Normanton neighbourhood police team (NPT) carried out the drugs warrant after receiving tip-offs from neighbours.

It is the latest raid following several other drugs busts earlier this month.

The operation was led by Sgt Peter Roberts.

He said: “At the premise were a number of males, some of whom were under the influence of drugs.

“Following a thorough search we found a fairly large amount of cannabis bush, with a street value of approximately £650.

“We are grateful for the community’s help and would urge anyone who has any information about drugs use in their neighbourhood to contact us as we will act on intelligence.”

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

He has since been interviewed and released on police bail.

An 18-year-old man was given an adult caution.

In the past few weeks police have also seen a rise in the number of thefts from cars and vans parked on and around Fairway Approach, Normanton, including sat navs and mobile phones.

Officers have upped patrols in the area and have been starting their shifts as early as 5am to try and catch the culprits.

PCSOs have also been out in the area trying vehicle doors so they can alert drivers if their vehicles have been left insecure.

The NPT has also been sending more officers to the industrial estate following a number of thefts from HGV trailers.

Last Friday a lorry parked on Tuscany Way was broken into during the early hours of the morning.

The suspects attempted to get away in a car but they were stopped by officers at around 3.30am at Wakefield Europort industrial estate.

The police helicopter was also involved in the search.

A 24-year-old and two 22-year-olds from Leeds were arrested and later charged with theft and are due to appear in court.

Anyone with any information about drug dealing in Normanton, Altofts or Sharlston area should contact the NPT by ringing 101.
