CIGARETTES worth thousands of pounds have been stolen from a Scholes shop that has been targeted by ram raiders twice in a matter of weeks.

People living in Westfield Lane were woken around 2.30am last Friday to a loud crash, as two men tried to ram a car through the roller-shutters of the Co-op.

The men used two metal bins, which they hit with their car, to squeeze through the metal bollards protecting the shop front, badly damaging the metal shutters.

They fled towards Wyke in a dark coloured Ford Mondeo, which had been stolen from Queensbury, Bradford. They escaped with ‘a large quantity of cigarettes’ according to police.

A similar incident took place at 2.45am on June 28 when a group of men in a red Vauxhall Calibra used the same method to break into the store to steal more than £3,000 of cigarettes.

The car was abandoned at the scene.
