TEMPERATURES might still be hitting 70 degrees but staff at one Cleckheaton pub have been feeling festive.
For while customers at the Obediah Brook were enjoying a cool drink on the patio in the late summer sun, bar staff were trimming up their Christmas tree.
The pub, which is part of the JD Wetherspoons chain, has put up its tree to advertise its Christmas Day menu and Christmas dinners, which are served from November 12 to December 23.
Bar associate Caroline Sultana said some customers were confused when they saw the tiny tree.
She said: “People said, ‘oh my God, why are you getting the Christmas tree out?’
“We are taking bookings for groups for Christmas meals, and we’re also doing Christmas Day lunch for the first time this year.
“We’ve already had one or two enquiries.
“I think the staff felt a bit daft putting the tree up – and I think it’s probably depressed quite a few people!”
Caroline said Wetherspoons pubs up and down the country were putting up trees to promote the Christmas meals.
Staff at the Union Rooms in Batley also put their tree up on Monday.
