Firefighters freed a man trapped in a car following a crash this afternoon (Sunday).

Crews from Mirfield and Huddersfield were called to Cockley Hill Lane, Kirkheaton, at around 12.30pm.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the car had crashed through a wall and landed on its side.

One female passenger managed to get out of the car before emergency services arrived, but crews had to free the driver, a male thought to be in his 50s.

Crews cut the windscreen from the car to get him from the vehicle and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

His injuries are not thought to be serious.
