windy Bank residents are celebrating the opening of their newly refurbished community centre.

The centre has been modernised by Kirklees Council and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, with the tenants and residents’ association playing a key role in overseeing the refurbishment. Spen Valley area committee also contributed funds for new furniture and equipment.

At an open day to celebrate the completion of the scheme. there were arts and crafts, zumba, and special sessions for young people. A number of organisations including KNH, Citizens Advice, Job Centre, Kirklees College and the police were also on hand to give help and advice, as well as get feedback from residents about local issues.

KNH Operations manager Robert Scott said: “The centre is at the heart of the Windybank community and the refurbishments mean it’ll be able to attract even more people to take part in a wider range of activities.”
