GUIDES and Rangers in Spen have been boosted by a £2,000 grassroots grant.

The grant, from the Co-operative Membership Community Fund, has been awarded to the Girlguiding South District Rangers and 2nd Liversedge Guides.

The fund is a small grants scheme that was set up to help local communities throughout the UK.

To be eligible for the grant, the group had to complete an application for a project that was in line with the values and principles of the Co-op.

The girls are using the money to part-fund a weekend trip where all the Guides and Rangers from the units will work together on team building, leadership skills. It will also help fund community service at one of Girlguiding UK’s residential centres in Lancashire.

The group hopes to take all 40 girls and their leaders on the weekend.

Leader Helen Jones said: “We are very excited about the grant and cannot thank the Co-op enough.

It is important to give our girls and young women the opportunities to work together and for others while developing their own skills and having fun too!”
