MORE than £1,500 has been raised for charity by the friends and family of two people who lost their lives to cancer.

Erica Hudson arranged a five-a-side football match to raise cash for Kirkwood Hospice in memory of her husband Craig, and friend Beverley Dransfield.

Craig died from pancreatic and liver cancer in October 2011 and breast cancer sufferer Beverley died in January this year.

The football match was the second one organised by the Hudson family – the first last year was in aid of Beverley’s cancer treatment.

This year’s event raised £1,506.30, which has been donated to Kirkwood Hospice.

Erica said: “The football match was fabulous. We had a beautiful day and it went really well.

“Barclays bank is match funding what we raised up to £750, so in total we have raised £2,256.30. I am over the moon.

“We have presented the money to Kirkwood Hospice and the staff there were over the moon too.

“It was really nice to go back and see the staff nurses who were there while my husband was there too.”

Erica is also training for the Midnight Memory Walk on Saturday in aid of the hospice, and she is helping with Kirkwood’s £3m Capital Appeal, raising money for building and refurbishment works at the Dalton site.
